Suzukis super Swift gains diesel frugality
Power comes from a common rail engine equipped with turbocharger and intercooler, and this latest Swift is capable of delivering smooth, effortless progress even at low engine speeds. With the wide spread of torque peaking at 125 lb ft (170 Nm) at just 2000rpm it provides superb flexibility and particularly kind-to-the-wallet running costs; mated to the same quick-shifting five-speed manual transmission thats used in petrol models, this latest diesel derivative is capable of 61.4 mpg in the Combined cycle.
Otherwise the 1.3 DDiS offers the same comprehensive package that has been winning over customers since the Swifts launch. Funky looks that stand out from the crowd, a spacious interior thanks to one of the widest bodies in class, Euro NCAP 4 star rating for occupant protection, and a taut, responsive chassis are matched to comprehensive equipment levels: front, side and curtain airbags, radio/CD player, remote central locking and immobiliser, electric front windows, electric and heated door mirrors, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, and tinted glass.
And because the specification is equivalent to GLX grade petrol engined models, this latest Swift also features air conditioning, alloy wheels, and front fog lamps. Only the petrol-engined models keyless entry is absent.
As well as being cheap to run, owners wont have to pay out a fortune to insure it, either the Swift 1.3 DDiS has been awarded an insurance group rating of just 4A.
